e-filed (NSC) on 04/19 and received the notice on 04/23. No update after that.
Called the customer care today. The representative opened a SR as I haven't received biometric appointment notice. Not sure how that's going to help as many folks have got their EAD without fingerprinting.
EAD expires on 92nd day. So keeping the fingers crossed :(

Guys, let us leave no soldier behind. Let us work on the number of years taxes have been paid + no criminal record. This will include all those who have been here paying their dues at work or at school. The point is: one behaves responsibly like a US citizen for many (5-10) years, yet do not have a shot at permanent residence, leave alone citizenship.

If your wife has an approved extension of H4 till 2010 and you are expecting her H1 to be effective on 1 oct - why do you want to apply for extension again with the new company.
I'm not sure if you *have* to apply for an extension for her when you switch your job. Best thing - if you want to take the job - say *yes* to the job offer with a condition that there should not be any issues for your wife. Your new company can connect you with their lawyer and in a meeting you would be able to know the exact scenario.
Having said that and knowing how the sentiments go for lawyers :-) , if you want to play it safe - say *yes* tomorrow, talk to their lawyer and get it confirmed that there are no risks, start the paperwork and in parallel, talk to a lawyer of your own choice ( you would need to spend some money ) and get reconfirmation of the same. If both lawyers have the same answer and you feel comfortable, go ahead with your change.
Today has been a crazy day and you posted this question on such a day - on any regular day someone or the other would have surely helped you with better answers but thats all I can help you with today.... hope things work out for the best for you.

Lot of these posts are generalized.....Only common case is "House with No GC".
The place where i live, rent is 200$ less than a mortgagepayment for a single family 2500 sq ft, 0.25 acre home. If one can live in a house for same payment why would they live in 1000 sq. ft apartment by obeying stupid rules put up by apartments managements, Like Lease Clauses, No Dish Antennas etc.,. Where i live, the prices didnt go down heavily...The places hit hard are where vacation homes built heavily. Or big cities with uncontrolled crime and prices.
May be you should also look into how many houses owned by legal immigrants were foreclosed? Please write responsibly, thank you

Thanks for making me look like an idiot in front of my lawyer and HR, everyone.
Based on RUMORs that "USCIS may get allergic reaction to too many 485 files, and stop accepting them in mid-July" I asked my lawyer this question:
I have a question about July Visa bulletin. If the August bulletin is retrogressed when announced in mid-July, can the USCIS change rules and stop accepting new Adjustment of status petitions in mid-July ? I know that it sounds illogical and that July bulletin's current dates would apply thru July 31st but I am hearing from my professional colleagues that USCIS could change rules and stop accepting new AOS petitions in middle of the month.
And I got this reply :
Yes, what you raise is quite illogical. The visa bulletin controls which AOS can be filed during the calendar month for which it is published, there is no way for USCIS to stop receiving an AOS application received say on July 16th. AOS is not like an H1B filing, where there is a finite # that must be received by a date certain and then allocated.
See, hear that ? "NO WAY FOR USCIS". Now, I dont know why some lawyers are spreading this nonsense that "BEWARE, USCIS will stop accepting new petitions if they receive 'too many petitions'. What is 'too many ??? Who defines 'too many'? Is 'too many' defined as the time when the mail room clerk gets back pain from lifting boxes of petitions ? Or the guy printing 485 receipt notices gets carpel tunnel syndrome ?
PLEASE PUT THIS IDEA TO REST. USCIS WILL ACCEPT PETITIONS THRU JULY 31, NO MATTER HOW TIRED THEY ARE AND NO MATTER HOW SICK THEY GET OF SEEING 485 FEDEXes COMING IN DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY. GOT IT ????

I filed my EAD at Texas office as i live in PA
Paper Copy reached on 04/08/10
Checks cleared on 04/15/10
text message with receipt number on 04/16/10
Soft LUD with date change on case status on 04/20/10
What's surprising is the receipt was issued out of Nebraska Service Center even though i filed at Texas lock-box as i currently live in PA.
My I-485 was submitted at Nebraska. Maybe that could be the reason.

If you think renting is not 'quality of life' and you see it is affordable and prepared to lose money go ahead and buy. On the other hand, if you don't mind renting and don't feel like losing your hard earned money wait for the downturn to be over.
The rate of fall is so much that it is better to lose on the rent than buy and lose over the next years depreciation.
My interest in the house would be long term investment rather than quality of life. Another point is that most people are unwilling to spend lot of money on rents to get the same QOL. There is emotional element there called (eventual) 'ownership' but that's only emotional. That I don't care about too much.
If the trend indicates prices are falling this year, I guess people will wait for a year more but at some point people will go ahead, depending on the overall economy start buying because no one can really predict the bottom. At that point, it may even start going up allowing the economy to slowly get back on its feet.

WASHINGTON While lawmakers try to compromise on a border control measure, President Bush is heading West on Tuesday to campaign for his guest worker initiatives as part of an immigration overhaul.
Bush will visit a Border Patrol training center in New Mexico and a sector headquarters in Texas. Immigration reform is a hot-button issue in both of the border states.
While the president is on the road, members of Congress are trying to reconcile differing bills on the immigration issue. The Senate measure includes a version of Bush's guest worker program, while the House bill focuses solely on tougher border enforcement.
