I have a similar timeline - applied for LC in February 2002, got approval in December 2003, filed I-140 in February 2004, I-485 in March 2004. Currently filing for my fifth EAD! The USCIS not only tortures the whole family (it's a common practice that name check is pending only for primary applicant) but makes us to pay for the wait! My son was born around the time we filed for adjustment of status, he will go to school soon but we are still not sure whether we will be allowed to stay. We cannot plan ahead and open education funds for our children. My wife cannot go to college, as she is not eligible for in-state tuition discount. Needless to say, I am forced to sacrifice my career as the whole thing is dragging for 5+ years and I have to work at the same position to keep GC process alive. I've got MCSD certificate and outgrew my position long ago. I cannot quit my job and found a new business.

I called USCIS regardng my I-140 approval notice and I was told that "It normally takes upto 30 days to receive any approval/receipt notices". Hope it helps!

We have temporarily suspended donor forum at this time as we do not have the man-hours and bandwidth to validate each donor to be added to the donor forum. If, say, I find another employer in a few months, can I use the visa that I have now?
If so, can I start working for that employer once he files a new petition, or do I have to wait until the new approval notice?

yes. you can. Just DON'T cancel. Keep them suspended. You have your utilities also suspended in the same way for much lesser fee.

I was married in India as per Muslim law and currently both of us hold US citizenship. At the time of marriage we both were indian citizens. What kind of rights do my wife has on my property in India on our divorce (I bought these properties after my marriage and it is all registered under my name) ? In US, both husband and wife would share any property that we aquired after the marriage. Does the same true in India?

As such, there is no grace period and it starts counting towards unauthorized stay (US is somewhat liberal for unauthorized stay for up to 180 days). It should be fine getting H1B transferred ASAP.
After 180 day, reentry can be banned for three years. After 1 years reentry can be banned for 10 years.

The company will have to sponsor the H1 in full. Not enough to just give you an employment verification letter.
Also as per the rules, you cannot pay for the H1. Only the company can pay for it.

My friend will come from India on H1B first time to Atlanta Air port this weekend. His H1B was approved for year 2008 and his stamping was done in early 2009. His H1B is from small desi consulting company. What kind of questions he may face? Any inputs will highly appreciated.
One of the most common questions for situation your friend is in is why he waited this long to come to the US after approval of H1B visa. Another question is to show proof of job availability. It is 2 years since a petition was applied for him and a year since he got his visa. Unless he has some very solid answers, there is a possibility that they might deny his entry.
If you say that another position has opened up for which he is coming, then the next question would be if a new LCA was applied for the new position, which would then open up a totally new ball game. I would suggest that you have your friend contact his company lawyer for suggetions, rather than listen to advice given by people here who have not been in such situations.

My employer is moving office to new address.How will it effect my future GC process ?. Thanks in advance
If the company is moving within the same county then no issues.
If it's moving to a different state (or) to a different county within the same state, then refer the following thread

If the gap between arriving on B2 and converting to H1B was less than 3 months, there could be a problem with "intent" as H1 is considered a dual intent (temporary non-immigrant worker who may have the intention of applying for a permanent immigrant visa i.e., GC) visa while B2 is not. While filling up the B2 application, there is a question which we need to answer NO asking this very question. I assume your wife answered NO during the B2 process. So, with H1 in less than 3 months (if this is the case) or arrival, she has "lied" in her B2 application as per the immigration laws.
I may be wrong.Please consult an attorney if needed.

I suggest we start with a parallel campaign to increase the number of IV members . Each IV member to bring in atleast one new member .
Steps to take:
Explanation : Explain, Teach /Preach or do whatever it takes to tell people about IV and what its mission is. Many people think IV is just a propaganda. SHOW them what IV has done. Tell them about the Rally Tell them about the FLower campaign . Make then visit the site
Reasoning : Make them understand that the EAD or the Labor that they are sitting on was not gotten thru some magic wand. It was thru efforts . Efforts of us IVians.
If we are able to get one person each to enroll. I am sure atleast 20 % of the new enrollees will start to understand IV and maybe contribute to it as well
This is something that can be done sitting where u r without any special effort. Let go IVians . This is one of the easiest things to do
