The original post is asking for visa revalidation not visa stamping.
I went for stamping.
My 6year period was expiring on 05/01/2008 and got extension until May 2011 (I-140 Approved)
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Does number of Adjustment of status matter for us?
I think we are more conserned about how many new visa's are issued in each category in a fiscal year.
Something is not right with the data you quoted.
On the same page(state dept web site), if you go down a bit see data from section V. That should give data on "Adjustment of Status" aka I-485. Consular Processing data is on differend document.

Yes, I-140 does affect in a big way, however, if they are not going to give you a receipt today, it is very much possible that they may never give you a receipt number, so at the end of the day, even you continue working for this particular employer for 10 more years, your situation won't change! So, for you, it is better to find a new job and re-start your immigration process (if you have to). Other thing to do would be to hire your own lawyer - your current lawyer will have to transfer ALL documents to your new lawyer - he cannot avoid that, he will get into legal trouble.
Correct, I do not have the receipt # for the I-140. I was told by my lawyer when I asked that this # belonged to my employer, not to me. It was at this point that I decided it was probably not the most wise for me to keep prying information and inform them of my intent to change jobs. The last thing I need is to end up having my employer withdraw their application. I do think, however, that this I-140 affects me in a big way, so i'm annoyed at not knowing whether its been approved or not.

Thanks chanduv23. At least now I have a time frame I can use to wait. Just in case this time I asked my attorney for the FedEx tracking # so I can make sure it makes it to Mesquite, Texas.

Thanks for your reply.
How did you find out what to answer for "Pick the service center where your I-485 is currently."
I have 2 options -
(a) Since the 485 receipt number starts with "WAC" and I found in this forum that WAC stands for 'California Service Center' I can pick "USCIS California Service Center"
(b) The current online status for the 485 is - "On March XX, 2009, we received your response to our request for evidence. This case is being processed at our NEBRASKA SERVICE CENTER location....." and so I can pick "USCIS Nebraska Service Center"
or should i pick some Field Office? - I have no idea what that means.
Thanks everyone, for reading my questions, and caring to post a reply.

2)The processing times says that they are processing cases as of July11 , 2007 but they have cases with RD 2003,2004 so a RD of june 2007 doesn't mean much older case
They should also consider that a person whose PD is 2001 stuck since 3 yrs. waiting to apply 485, applied in June also get priority.
For EX; My 140 was approved in Jul 05, that time eb3 was U a Big U. EVERYDAY, EVERYMONTH, waiting / expecting to file 485, finally I could apply in Jun 07, when my PD became current, I like others suffer a lot, 3 yrs. i had been waiting for the moment to file for 485.
its like one who filed in 2005, still waiting, still suffering, and Me like others who did not file, but suffered, still suffering...
I am looking forward for magic mail, God knows when I will get that.

Pappu (Himanshu) is being modest here by not mentioning that he was the one who spent around 10-12 hours designing the ad. It took a lot of time for him to design this nicely after the text was finalized.
So please join me in Thanking Himanshu here for spending so many hours on this advertisement, talking and negotiating with Roll-call newspaper and also for showing up at the rally despite his requirement to be close to his family.

If you have green card , think about investing in US, otherwise invest in India
Huh...Why should that be? IMO GC should not be the criterion whether to invest in US or not...

Using AC21 and felling the job recession.
Any inputs?
Please do not start posing all the negative comments about closing this thread, if you have any points please post else you are free to leave the thread. Thanks for understanding.
Yes its very understandable to feel jittery (feeling the same myself) - made up my mind to move and found a job but suddenly this recession talk became too louder. Its too difficult to predict but it would depend a lot on the industry/company each is working.
I took the recession talk in a different way - I am not happy at my current job (because of nature of work and future prospects and general issues like commute etc) and so now may be the best time to change - since technology job market is still fine but may not be so in coming months/years. So if I dont change job now - I might be stuck at the current company for atleast couple years. Based on that thinking I decided to move. Of course there is a risk - my new company might hit hard times and if layoff comes as a new employee I would be on the chopping block there. In that aspect staying at my current company maybe better (been here for long time and "owns" a critical piece of product so job safety is very high but with same benfits and same old job). I am taking that risk as relatively visa situation is bit better now (I485/AC21/EAD/AP).

Blue cross blue shield covers maternity but there may be a wait time of 6 months.contact an insurance agent and explain your situation. Its really a simple process and you need to understand a few words like out of pockets expenses, deductible, copay etc.
I know in michigan BCBS charges $133 for maternity rider. Getting an individual policy is very easy and dont let some guys scare about fine print and all that. The fact is they are too lazy to know about something new and they go preaching others to stay away from it too.
Thanks for responding

How do you spot an Indians house
1. Picture of Lord "..." at entrance. Folks I citing what Fairfax cops said, don't label me. I myself was surprised to read
2. Toyota and/or Honda in driveway if you are OK. Mercedes/BMW/Lexus if rich
3. Husband mows lawn and front yard least beautiful amongst neighbors
4. Mostly stay in-house, even during summer. Spouse (wife) rarely (maybe never) seen conversing with neighbors shorts wearing blonde.
5. Religiously leaving at 7:00am and returning no earlier than 6:00pm Mon thru Friday. Working even when people are being fired right&left.
6. If ever going for vacation never shorter than 3 weeks
7. Doing grocery always on weekends.
Evidently, we all do many of these ourselves ... me too:p.
Again peace!

Hi,
I received my permanent green card based on marriage to US citizen, valid for 10 years last month. Now, I am planning to travel to India after close to 9 years, but I am extremely concerned about returning point of entry issues and I wanted to see what would the community suggest.
I came to the US in Fall of 2002 on a student visa. Around aug - 06, I went out of status. Right around then I met my future wife who is an american citizen, we moved in dec of 06 and got married in Jun 07. Due to financial hardship, we couldnt apply for my AOS/GC up untill late Oct last year. [Oct - 2010]. We hired a lawyer and every thing went pretty smoothly and fast.
I had my EAD approved within 45 days and I got my GC interview after a month. We [me, wife, lawyer] went to the meeting and everything went great. Our interviewing officer just took 20 mins to question us and we received my Permanent GC [not conditional] in the mail shortly there after.
Now I am planning a visit back home for one week, because I couldn't get more days off.
I am just worried about my return step to US at the port of entry. I have been reading and I learnt that I just have to present my country passport and physical green card to the officer who will then scan and ask questions.
What kind of questions can I expect from the officer?
Will he be asking me questions about my past as in when was the last time I came to US?
Why I was illegal/out of status of close to 4 years and questions about our marraige etc?
When applying for GC we collected lot of documents to provide to the USCIS that our marriage was in good faith such as joint bank accounts, pictures, leases etc. Should I take all those documents with me when flying?
Will taking a certified copy of my marraige certificate beneficial along with the supporting documents?
It feels like another "meeting" with USCIS where I have to show proof but I am really concerned that I dont get denied at the port of entry.
Also, after I got my EAD, I moved to another state to work on a contract position for couple of months. I consider my actual address as the address I applied my GC which is in another state, since this is just temporary job. I already mentioned this to the officer at my interview and he noted my current location/job title etc during that time....should I do something about it?
Sorry about such a long list of questions. Its just that I havent travelled out of country in such as long time and I dont know what issues I could face and what I need to carry with me so that I can be allowed back into the country upon return?
Thanks.
Out of status for that long probably carries a 10 year entry ban.
You will just be relying on the POE Officer's oversight as your hopes of getting in. Other than that, anyone who looks through the history deeply has a good chance of catching the issue.
I don't think being a GC holder makes any difference, as the out-of-status was accrued before GC.
I am not a lawyer, so don't take my words without verifying with lawyers.

Looks like it. As per cnn the congress should end the lame duck session by Thursday.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/12/06/congress.roundup.ap/index.html
But Republicans about to lose their thrones are doing nothing not sanctioned by Bush before the 109th Congress shuts down after a final, four-day work week. On Wednesday, the administration released a statement saying the president strongly supports the fetal pain bill, which would require women at 20 weeks of pregnancy and beyond to be informed that an abortion would cause the fetus pain.
I guess the congress will work until Friday as Monday (12/4) is not counted as part of the 4 - day week.
