I am on H4 visa, based in Georgia. Did anyone get �Change of Maiden Name to Married Name� done on passport from Indian Consulate Houston, TX.
Can anyone tell me what am I supposed to write in the �Surname� column in the new online application form ? The old application had 2 columns, 1 for maiden name and the other for Desired Name, but the new online application form has only 1 Surname column. I am confused as to what should I write � my maiden name or my married name. I do have the notarization done on the affidavit form. Does this give me the right to write my married name ? Which name should I sign in the application- maiden or married name?

USCIS has once again updated its announcement regarding the number of H-1B petitions received and counted towards the H-1B cap. October is usually a month where we see improvements as new visa numbers become available for a new fiscal year. Most categories showed forward movement though few jumps of more than a few months. The exception is the Mexico Family 1st category which jumps a year and a half. EB-3 is available again, but not set at a date particularly close. Most people will not be happy with the dates. USCIS has reminded all applicants for Adjustment of Status, Asylum, Legalization and Temporary Protected Status to obtain an Advance Parole (AP) document before traveling abroad. AP allows an applicant to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad.
In order to obtain Advance Parole, individuals must file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document to USCIS. The USCIS cautions individuals planning on traveling abroad to file Form I-131 well in advance of their travel plans (approximately 90 days before) in order to prevent possible conflicts.
We suggest all applicants of I-131 to file it in time to get the AP approval before leaving the U.S., otherwise it could have dire consequences and may result in an individual not being able to re-enter. Therefore, individuals that have a pending I-485 are encouraged to apply for Advance Parole before traveling abroad for easier re-entry if the circumstances of their current status changes.

Hi
I need to travel out of US urgently because of family emergency.
1) Can I get emergency AP from local/district ofices with supporting documents
2) I saw that I can travel until I get my AP approved.Has any oine denied entry because of they travelled out of US while ap processing is pending.Any experiences..

Folks,
I have a coworker who is a citizen of Canada and got I-140 approved yesterday.
The question is how safe, easy and hassle-free it will be to do a CP (Counselor Processing) from Canada instead of I-485? CP will be done in US embassy in Montreal. Do you guys know any experiences from your other friends? Any relevant information will be appreciated.

The green card backlog situation seems hopeless to me.
Is this organization working to get the

Hi,
I am planning to go to India for 3 months. I have EAD and AP, H1B visa stamping valid till 08/30/2010. Now I am on EAD.
From past 3 months, I don’t have project, so I am thinking to go India and come back in the month of Jan 2010 (if US market improves).
My wife is working on EAD and she will be staying in US.
What are the problems I may face at POE, US? (Possible Chicago POE)

Got another question for Nikon people - a friend sent his D300s in for repair. Nikon upgraded the firmware, and now he can't open the RAW (NEF) files in CS3. Any thoughts?

Dear All,
As I work for a consulting company and my previous lawyer was my employer's ass kisser, I decided to go for a new lawyer.
(1) Will the new lawyer need any documents from old lawyer? As such I have copies of everything till now
(2) My employer is in Dallas and I am on a project in New Jersey, but my petition is for my permanant work location in Dallas - is it advisable to choose a lawyer from Dallas (future employment area) or NYC/NJ where I currently have my project (i plan to stay here for a while) - what is the general take - physical accessibility to lawyer or choose lawyer close to company location?
(3) How hard is it to find lawyers? Last month when dates moved considerably - I heard lawyers have been stressed and over burdened over the mad rush of petitions and have been least responsive - will lawyers take new cases in such situations???
(4) Can anyone suggest a communicative lawyer? The best of all :)
